A North Charleston family received support from the American Red Cross after their home on Harvey Avenue was damaged by weather Saturday night.
The organization is assisting five people with financial help for food, clothing, lodging and other essentials.
Charleston Animal Society is hosting free dog adoptions for dogs 6 months and older on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its North Charleston (and Moncks Corner) campuses as the shelter seeks homes for over 200 dogs.

Charleston Southern University holds ribbon cutting ceremonies today for Magnolia Hall and the CSU Health Clinic on campus.
Magnolia Hall, the first residence hall since 2019 with 216 beds and over 52,000 sqft, will offer tours after the ceremony while the new clinic will provide student health services.
The College of Charleston welcomed 3,360 freshmen and transfer students this weekend during Fall Welcome Weekend with a new Cougar Walk guiding them from Rivers Green to the Cistern Yard — a record enrollment that signals growing local interest and a busy start for Monday’s classes.

MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital will receive a $100K grant from the Hyundai Hope on Wheels foundation to support pediatric cancer research.
The funding will bolster efforts by doctors and researchers to find a cure for child cancer.
